July 26, 2013 - Platea Theater Project is born! It was an incredible joy and honor to have our inaugural performances in the company of such a fine community of artists in the Bed Stuy STooPS Festival! Thank you to the organizers, to the New York Restoration Project for hosting us in the beautiful Garden of Hope, and to everyone in the community who spent some time with us on Sunday! Left are some pictures from the festival.

October 15, 2013 - The Vagari Project was featured in the student blog of my alma mater Wesleyan University in anticipation of our visit today—thanks, Wesleying!
September 16, 2013 - The Vagari Project leaves today! Follow us at www.VagariProject.com or www.facebook.com/VagariProject, or email us at VagariProject@gmail.com to be added to our email list!
August 3, 2013 - A great review of Step in Encore Michigan's coverage of BoxFest Detroit 2013! "There is a definite pattern to the emotions in this play, and Emily Caffery hits each rise and fall just right. There's special appeal in experiencing the actors' subtle gestures, some angry, some consoling, that give depth to the spoken word." Read the full review here.
July 29, 2013 - We've started making our commedia masks for the Vagari Project! Here's a sneak peek. And yesterday the Vagari crew had a fantastic time training with The Hinterlands, getting an introduction to their method of ensemble work, physical theater, and explosive play! If you're in the Detroit area, you should check them out.
July 26, 2013 - The BoxFest Detroit 2013 schedule is announced! The play I'm directing, Step , is in Box 3, with performances on Saturday, August 3 at 3pm, Thursday, August 8 at 9pm, and Saturday, August 10 at 3pm. For more information, check out the Facebook event!
July 21, 2013 - This is a treat: a staged reading of a play in the historic apartment building in which it is set. The play is 1300 Lafayette East by Brooke Berman, and it's part of the Performance Network's Fireside New Play Festival. The story is set in 1967 Detroit, but the way it deals with race is strikingly relevant today, when the differing realities for black and white Americans is a topic of national conversation. We read for residents of 1300 Lafayette East this Tuesday, and then we're at the Performance Network for the Fireside Festival on Wednesday at 7pm.

July 17, 2013 - The Vagari Project kickstarter campaign has launched! We're raising money to get ourselves outfitted and on the road: getting the bus ready to live in, collecting the necessary practical equipment, and also gathering artistic equipment, namely costumes and props. Once we're on the road, we'll be living frugally and passing the hat at performances for gas and food money. But for anyone able to chip in a little money to get us started, we are so grateful!
July 10, 2013 - Tonight we start rehearsing the short play I'm directing for BoxFest Detroit, an annual theater festival promoting women directors. It's an intriguingly ambiguous new play titled Step about a couple reuniting in front of the shell of their burned-down home and grappling with what remains of their marriage. It was written by local playwright Katherine Nelson and features Nicholas LaGrassa and Tricia Turek.
July 2, 2013 - I just finished participating in a couple of staged readings of a new Gothic one-act called Second Hand Books at the Jewish Ensemble Theatre. It was great to meet playwright Andrew Karp and his wife who drove from Long Island to be there! It's a very interesting, mysterious play that sparked a lively discussion with the audience afterward!
